more bad journalism

I’m sorry, I know I’m a democrat and I’m supposed to be happy about this bs, but come on! It’s like they published a Kerry for President press release. “Not only is Kerry unhappy that he has to act fake and be on the campaign, he’s also an athlete!” Yuck. If the times published something all about how Bush is such a good family man and loves god and is optimistic, I would be equally disgusted, but that’s other papers job I suppose. THESE ARE REAL PEOPLE! THEY ARE NOT CARTOON CHARACTERS. Plus, Kerry has wanted to be President of the US since he knew the job existed, the idea that he’s now some sort of idealistic tortured soul on campaign is just stupid.

bored?

Play this game, it is named well.

perfect

As noted by the Washington Monthly, Ron Reagan very articulately makes a distinction between his father and our current President:

Dad was also a deeply, unabashedly religious man. But he never made the fatal mistake of so many politicians, wearing his faith on his sleeve to gain political advantage. True, after he was shot and nearly killed early in his presidency, he came to believe that God had spared him in order that he might do good. But he accepted that as a responsibility, not a mandate. And there is a profound difference.

My favorite line is “responsibility, not a mandate.” That is so key!

interesting article, possible case of good journalism…

See? This is real journalism. Whether or not it’s true, you can be the judge having weighed the presented evidence, it actually tries to challenge what has become one of the basic presuppositions of this year’s political cycle as opposed to doing lame analysis based on everyone else’s premanufactured “political realities.”

going public

ok, I’ve just put the link to this on my aim profile, so people might actually read it now. if you’re reading this, let me know what you think, comment away and all that. I guess blogs are supposed to be a new opportunity for political dialogue (and here I thought it would just be a place for my egomaniacal rants!) so, you know, discuss ;) .

kerry/mccain ticket, transparent manipulation anyone?

alright, it seems that once and for all the media is coming to accept that a Kerry/McCain ticket WILL NEVER HAPPEN, despite their weird wet dreams and breathless buzz about it. I’m sorry, but why have so few people figured this out!? Kerry’s people just keep saying it, knowing full well that there’s no chance (this article says McCain made it clear that it was impossible a few weeks ago) so that there can be more speculation, and Kerry can be associated w/ McCain in the minds of swing voters and independents (who love McCain) all over the country.

Slate is the only place in the media I’ve seen this strategy actually noted but slate was also a part of the political gossip class that generated this buzz in the first place and was therefore a total tool of the democratic establishment.

It’s not that I mind the advantages that Kerry is reeping, I’m happy about it. But I’m depressed about the way in which the media establishment has been so stupid and easily manipulated. The New York Times wrote an entire front page story about it and never mentioned this angle (to the best of my memory, I don’t want to pay for their archives). The Times, and everyone else, should be smarter than that.

Just goes to show, you can’t trust everything you read.

i am lazy.

I’ve been thinking about my earlier thoughts about my lack of mental focus. I think a lot of it has to do with my inability to self-motivate. I’m one of those people who would make the call to have a personal trainer (as a metaphor, like signing up to take a class, have a job) but isn’t that good at making myself do things. I remember I used to hate practicing music or going to my lessons when I was little, but I always enjoyed it while I was doing it and after, I just dredded starting. Weird right? So I gotta get myself out of that kind of irrational laziness, because I’m happier when I’m not lazy, but I want to be lazy…
