demand to know the truth!
we must know!
Directed by the dailykos.com, I watched the first 25 minutes or so of Kerry’s participation in a debate in 1974 with the leader of a group that opposed him and the Veteran’s Against the War. You should watch it for two reasons:
1. It’s tremendously encouraging for the future of this race. Kerry is articulate, calm and quietly vicious. His opponent is no slouch in this little debate (interesting note: he’s also the author of the new book that came out in coordination with the “Swift Boats for Truth” slime ad) but Kerry beats the crap out of him. If he’s kept his skills up over the last 30 years, it’s going to be quite a show when he and GWB face off in October.
2. I learned a lot about the substance of the Vietnam issue that, as a youngster, I didn’t really know: Vietnamization, the timeline of the withdrawal, the general tone and basis for the debate at the time. Even if Kerry weren’t running for President now, it would still be an interesting historical piece to look back to learn!
That’s right everyone, you can put your candles away and redirect your nightly prayers. All is well. We can continue our normal lives. Paris Hilton’s lost Chihuaha Tinkerbell has been found, and is in good health.
I know that I let out a huge sigh of relief when I read this ON THE FUCKING FRONT PAGE OF CNN.COM! That’s right, this news was deemed important enough by the editors of CNN.com to have it placed as a side headline on the FRONT PAGE. My fear for the fate of this country peaks and troughs, you can imagine which direction this pushed it.
That’s right folks, that’s exactly what Mr. President said last week when he noted that he was opposed to legacy admissions. That’s right folks, George W. Bush is opposed to people receiving special treatment because of their place in the social hierarchy or, to be more specific, who their father is.
For obvious reasons I find this pretty rich. After all, W. was not just a legacy admission to Yale, he’s a LEGACY FUCKING PRESIDENT. Nothing he has done in his entire life was done without the help of his father and his name. Ok, that’s probably not true. He probably did a keg stand or two without help from poppa.
NOTE: I understand that when asked the question, he didn’t really have a politically viable option but to say that he opposed them. But doesn’t that say something about his own life and the public’s cognitive dissonance that his life story is politically unacceptable?
this is one of the most hilarious and amazing articles I’ve ever read.
I swear to god, Jon Stewart is the best journalist in America. He’s the only person with the balls to pull the curtain back and point out when something is PURE BULLSHIT! Watch the interview with Congressman Bonilla.
