Condi in 08

Apparently some people out there in GOPland want Condi to be their party’s nominee in ’08. While the poll is far from scientific, it brings up some fascinating questions: are the GOP voters in the south who left the Democratic Party when it stopped supporting segregation (and when Nixon instituted the Southern Strategy) really past their racist tendencies? Would they tolerate a brilliant and strong black woman as the leader of their party? While I think it’s unlikely that Condi would want to do this, it would sure be politically and socially fascinating to watch.

My concern would be that Sec. Rice doesn’t really have an identity of her own, rather she’s kind of been a Bush Administration yes-man.

This is a problem Colin Powell, for example, didn’t have. And maybe Condi will get past that image as SecState in a way she couldn’t as Nat’l Security Advisor.

Do we know anything about her social politics?

I’m not saying I’d vote for her, but just that watching her clash w/ the old whities that run her party would be interesting. Also, I’m not sure being a Bush yes-woman would hurt her in that area.

I read somewhere that she’s pro-choice, or at least said something that made someone think that…
