this is fascinating

check this out. A fascinating point about American religion. I don’t know whether it’s valid or simply playing off of common conceptions, but I’m sure curious.

I am not sure any one person can answer what you are asking in entirety. So here’s an experiment for you: why don’t you ask people on this campus whether they have ever felt marginalized, singled out, or unwelcome in any way by a campus religious group or place of worship? I’m curious as to the answer. But it’s dangerous to be talking about headings as broad as “American religion” or even to limit it to a few faiths. It depends on so much more than that, such as the part of the country, and the ideas that influence people which may not actually sprout from their religion.

My personal experience is that religious people, at least on this campus, are the most welcoming people I know. Certainly more welcoming than certain members of far left-leaning groups who denounce you as an awful person if you disagree with them on one or two points, and who seem to love confrontation.
