Wow, that little empire crumbled fast. Always struck me as a cool idea, but I guess the economics just weren't there.
I'm particularly surprised that they folded the NH site. Would think you'd do what NH newspapers do: run at a loss 3/4 years and then rake in the dough during the primaries.

A kinder take, but the basic point remains the same: The problem throughout, though, is that they never ever started to build web-native products. they never learned the ways in which the internet changes writing, the reader/writer relationship, and the ecosystem of news. They still have time, but they have to invest in the medium itself not just in porting their dead tree products online.
